There are so many wonderful buildings or other types of facades to inspire us. Old period buildings, colourful boat sheds, modern skyscrapers, interesting shops, ramshackle sheds, retro beach houses, old rusty trucks, a ferry or even an old campervan can be the inspiration for your quilt. You can crop to have a design that is all façade or you can include sky and foreground in your design. A number of different techniques for these areas will be outlined and demonstrated.
As part of the construction technique we will look at the layers of the façade and construct each layer separately. The main features will be outlined with a thin dark line to create a more graphic image.
After looking at a number of colour schemes, each participant will construct a small quilt based on a doorway with the pattern supplied by the tutor. Participants will then go on to construct their own design, having the option of using a very different palette or staying with the original colour scheme.
There will be patterns of an old campervan and a seaside cottage available for those that would like to use them.
